ModularSetup is an independent editorial publication about Eurorack modular synthesis. We publish hands-on module reviews, patching technique, and the releases worth knowing about — written by people who own the gear rather than people who read the spec sheet.
How we test
Every module we review is installed in a real rack and driven for a minimum of two weeks before a word is written. That means honest current figures measured at the busboard, not copied from a manufacturer’s page — we report what a module actually draws on +12 V, -12 V and +5 V, because a case with a marginal power budget is the most common way a rack fails in practice. We note panel depth for the same reason: a skiff that cannot close is a real problem, and no amount of feature list compensates for it.
We test with signal analysis alongside listening. Where a module claims through-zero linear FM, a specific filter slope, or a quantiser’s accuracy, we check the claim rather than repeating it. Where a claim is marketing rather than engineering, we say so. Every review ends in a verdict with explicit pros and cons, and a patch recipe you can reproduce in your own rack on the same afternoon.
